Is some of this psychological?

I am getting ready to run out the door for this Youth Camp I am working in but wanted to blog quickly. Yesterday I rode my bike for 20 minutes and then did some strength training to work my quads and hamstrings. I am not sure if this is psychological or not but my knee actually felt better afterwards for about 5 hours. Then I started to feel the dull ache I have been feeling for a while. Also, throughout the day yesterday I stretched and used the foam roller. I am not sure if the pain will ever diminish when I am using that thing!
Today, I plan on riding my bike longer today or at least until my buttocks can't take it anymore. I still have not gone shopping for biker shorts. I think I will do some ab and core work to.

It's not psychological, but it can feel that way when you have pain. The mental thing was as important to me as the physical and that's the main reason I went to the physical therapist. I wanted to be reassured that I wasn't hurting myself, and I wanted advice on how to make my knee stronger and get that IT cord stretched. It's amazing how helpful it is to have an expert tell you exactly what the problem is and advise you on how to fix it rather than floundering around with everybody else's advice. In order for my insurance to cover the visit I had regular m.d. give me a referral to the p.t. who is Mark Livingtone at Sports Medicine Clinic located in the Flowood YMCA (but not part of the Y). I haven't had to see him again but certainly will if the need arises. He's a runner also, which is very helpful.

Bike riding, if done with proper seat height, etc., is one of the best things you can do for your knees. But if done wrong (seat too low, etc.) it can be one of the worst. If you didn't have knee problems before, you will if you ride with your seat too low. It's a great strength building activity for your quads and hammies, which are what have to support your knees. Keep on riding -- it will benefit you so much in the long run.
